Criticism over Fergie`s appearance has left her devastated
The singer struggles to feel confident about herself anyway, which is why having people mock the way she looks affects her so deeply. Internet bloggers have repeatedly dubbed her "fugly" - slang for "f**king ugly" - as a joke, but Fergie found it tough to deal with.
"It has hurt in the past when people say things like how `fugly` I am or how horrible I look," she told the American edition of Elle magazine. "Look, when you`re trying to juggle all of this in your life, sometimes you`re not going to look perfect."
Last year, Fergie starred in musical movie Nine alongside a host of other stars including Kate Hudson, Penelope Cruz and Nicole Kidman. She had to pile on weight for the film, which she also found tough.
Although putting on 17lbs wasn`t too hard, getting rid of it was difficult. The 35-year-old endured months of hurtful comments about her fluctuating waistline as she tried to get back into shape, which only made her battle worse.
Fergie admits she thought it would be easy to tone up again, but it took her much longer than she expected. "I didn`t just snap back," she told the publication.
